2019 WHEN Science Fair will be February 9th
Who loves Science?? We do!
WHEN is excited to sponsor our annual Science Fair for Homeschoolers in the Wasatch Front. We want your ideas and your brilliance and your display boards!
To sign up for our Science Fair, please go to the Events page *here*! The Science Fair will be held on Saturday, February 9th from 9:15am-12:30pm at BYU’s Conference Center (by the MTC).
Who can participate:
Any homeschooler in Utah County who is a current WHEN member. Even if the student is dual enrolled or does option days. As long as the family is registered with WHEN as a paid member they can participate.
There are five divisions: K-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-12.
All winners from grades 5-12 will be advanced to the Central Utah STEM Fair where they will compete with 5-12th grade students from our region (public and homeschooled).
The registration deadline is January 31, 2019.
Some things to keep in mind:
- A Science Fair project does NOT need to be difficult and all-consuming! Check these resources for ideas and helps if you’re new to this event. (sciencebuddies.org, education.com/science-fair)
- ALL the children will be interviewed by the judges (no parents allowed during this time), so make sure that your child knows what their project is about by asking them questions as you do the project or have a practice session with them pretending that you or someone else is the judge. Make it fun and non-stressful!
- There are two different judging forms depending on the project. Science Experiment or Technology Experiment (machines and inventions). Make sure to look over the forms that apply to your child’s project. You can find the forms on the CUSEF page here: http://cusef.byu.edu/
- The judges are Biology students from UVU. They are very interested and patient. They love coming to support our young scientists and use this as a great teaching experience for our students. If a child struggles with explaining something, the judges are happy to help them along so it can be a positive experience for everyone.
