Why should I join WHEN?

You’ve got the home part of homeschool covered, let us handle the Events! We offer over a dozen cultural experiences at BYU and the Scera Theater, as well as both  Academic and Holiday Events each year. We hope you join us for our all our fun and adventure.

WHEN is a great place to find “socialization” or “civilization” for your kids, as well as a great way for YOU to connect with other homeschooling parents. Many a friendship has been made, a curriculum recommendation exchanged, and a co-op found through WHEN Events.

How do I join WHEN?

Just click on the login/join WHEN link on the homepage. This will take you to our signup page where we will collect a little information from you and accept your yearly payment.

Events Questions

All the tickets for [Event] are sold out! How can I get tickets?

Many of our field trips are very popular and sell out within a few hours/days of being posted. The venues only give us a certain amount of tickets for each event, and when they’re gone…they’re gone.

Typically a few members have something that comes up at the last minute and can’t make it. They’ll post on the Facebook group or on this website’s Event page that they can’t use their ticket and you’re welcome to snap them up! Check the Events page a few days before (and sometimes even the morning of) the event.

Please do not call the venue and ask for more tickets for the WHEN group. Our Field Trip Chair takes care of all communication between WHEN and the venue. Frequently there are additional performances in the evenings that your family can attend separately from WHEN

I bought tickets to an event. Should I print anything?

Nope! We have a list of attendees and we typically will stand in the lobby or by the theater door and check off attendees names as you come in. If you can’t make a performance, PLEASE give your tickets to another homeschool family! The venues will provide us with fewer tickets if we give them an empty audience. Frequently the performance is sold out, but we only fill 3/4 of our WHEN seats. Performers and venues like to have full audiences, so help us by being sure someone is in your seat.

I'm looking for [Event]. How do I find it?

You can find WHEN events under  the “Adventures & Events” and the “Extras” tabs and sign up there. You can also find them on the “Calendar & Tickets”.

You should receive an email confirming your registration. There is also a place at the bottom of the event page to post questions, should you need additional information.

I signed up for a field trip and paid, but now I won't be able to attend. Can I get a refund?

We don’t offer refunds through WHEN, but you can be sure there’s another member who wants your tickets! Please post A.S.A.P., either on the WHEN Facebook page or on this website’s Event page what/when your tickets are for and how many you have available. You can work out payment with any takers on your own. We should have a list at the door of each venue and will be checking you off. You can provide the attendee with your name and we’ll check off your tickets that they’re using.

I want to bring my grandma/ toddler/ food item into the show, even though the rules say I can't. But I'm the exception, right?

Homeschoolers are awesome people who are independent thinkers. Unfortunately, venues get to make the rules and we don’t get to bend them. Please be sure to check the age restrictions, food restrictions, parking restrictions, seating restrictions, & attendee restrictions BEFORE purchasing your tickets. We maintain a good relationship with our venues because we follow the rules. Help us keep that good WHEN going by making sure you’re compliant. Thanks!

Financial Questions

How much does WHEN cost and why?

WHEN costs $24 per year for each family. You should receive an email each year when your membership is about to expire. When it does, simply pay the $24 to renew. If you can’t see anything on the website besides the homepage and FAQs, it probably means your membership has expired.

We use this money to subsidize our events, making the Academic Events as low cost as possible and the field trips and events cheap. We also use it to maintain this website. If $24 is a financial hardship for you, please contact us and we can help you out.

Paid WHEN Members are able to sign up for our events, mentor night, holiday events, receive member exclusive discounts, free classes and participate in our academic competitions, and so much more.

I don't have PayPal, why can't I just give you cash or a credit card?

PayPal is simple and free to sign up for. Yes, WHEN is awesome, but our main focus is on providing excellent events, not on financial e-security. PayPal, however, is all about the security and can keep your information safe. If you absolutely don’t want to join PayPal, perhaps you can find a friend who will take your cash and let you use their PayPal account to sign up.
